What Is This?: The pancreas is a long, flat gland that can be found behind the stomach in the upper abdomen. It produces both enzymes and hormones that the body needs to function. It uses the enzymes to aid digestion and the hormones that the pancreas produces helps regulate the blood sugar levels. When this gland is inflamed, it is known as Pancreatitis.
How It Causes Stomach Pain: Pancreatitis is characterized by pain in the upper abdomen, pain in the abdomen that radiates to the back, pain in the abdomen that worsens after eating, vomiting and a tenderness when touching the abdomen.
