Eye twitches, or spasms of the eyelids, are common. It may feel like a flutter or like something is tugging at your eyelid. Sometimes the feeling is gentle and other times it can be strong. The sensation may come and go quickly or can last for several minutes and it can come and go sporadically. So the experience can vary but there are common underlying causes you should be aware of.
If you’ve ever overworked your arm or leg muscles during exercise, you’re familiar with the experience of having your muscles actually twitch or shake from fatigue. This same phenomena can affect other parts of the body, including the eyelid, when you’re feeling tired or weak. Many times, simple fatigue can be the cause of eyelid twitches. If you experience both of these conditions simultaneously, that is likely the situation. A simple solution would be to get extra sleep, even a quick nap, to recharge and get your energy levels back up.
