2. Allergies
Allergies – whether they be seasonal allergies like pollen, or regular allergies that occur year-round – can cause irritation of the eye, resulting in eye twitches. When an allergic reaction occurs in the body, histamine is sent to sensitive tissues throughout the body including the mouth, throat, nose and eyes. This causes swelling and increased blood flow, and this can result in irritation. The body naturally reacts to these irritations with involuntary movements like coughing, mucous secretion and muscle twitches – like those in the eyelid.
